American Broadcasting School Online Curriculum
Broadcast Theory: In this course You'll learn about the various facets of radio broadcast theory including an Introduction to Radio Broadcasting, General Broadcast Terminology, a study of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Rules and Regulations, On-The-Air Personality Principles and Development, Programming & Music Philosophy, Radio Broadcast Sales & Marketing, Professional Broadcasting Opportunities and Career Potentials. You'll spend time in interactive chat discussions and will engage in broadcast training exercises to assist you in the learning and application of the subject matters. Broadcast Theory will give you solid foundational knowledge about radio broadcasting industry-wide.

Air Shifts: Each week, You'll perform a total of 4 hours of Live Air Shows for your Online Instructor. During this time, you'll be learning about the various elements of a professional Air Show as well as developing skills as an air personality. You'll also learn how to operate and smoothly execute the functions of state-of-the-art Internet radio On-The-Air software. You'll be professionally critiqued by your Online Instructor after each show. In addition, you'll receive Vocal Coaching after each program to improve your vocal delivery. These exercises and skills will serve you well should you decide to start your own Internet Radio Station, Voice-Talent, Commercial Production, Mobile Music company, or work at a traditional radio station.

Digital Production: Using industry grade production software (Adobe Audition ©) you'll learn how to professionally produce commercials, announcements and advanced audio mastering techniques often overlooked in other media programs. You'll become proficient in how to edit waves and how to multi-track sound effects, music beds and voice tracks in the final mixdown to produce a quality piece of work for On Air play. These skills will springboard you into the exciting and profitable world of digital production!

Copywriting: Learning Copywriting (or radio script writing) adds creativity to your broadcasting skills and helps you to become versatile in a number of areas. You'll learn to write professional copy for Commercial Advertising, News, Sports, Public Affairs and Public Service announcements. These skills will help you be highly successful in the imaginative world of broadcasting.

Newscasting: Here you'll learn the theory and application of broadcast news. You'll learn News Terminology, Types of News Stories and Interviews, How to Setup, Conduct and Produce the Interview, Principles and Ethics of News Reporting, you'll learn about News-Talk Radio and about the general structures of the various types of News Organizations. If you are interested in Sportscasting or News-Talk, these skills would be a plus on your Internet Radio Station to build audience and attract advertisers.

Programming: In this part of your program, you'll learn about the theory and the elements that makeup the programming side of radio. You'll learn about the various written documents required by the Federal Communications Commission, how they must be maintained and how they affect your daily programming. You'll also become familiar with the procedures and practices of the Traffic Department, Programming and Sales and how they are interwoven. This section is a must for the entrepreneur who plans to run his or her own Internet Radio Station and make money with commercial advertising.
